Become a Veterans Choice Participating Provider

Veterans Choice Program (VCP) expands veterans’ access to health care by allowing eligible veterans to obtain approved services in their community.

Eligible veterans must contact Health Net Federal Services, LLC (HNFS) to obtain authorization for all care under VCP. Veterans are encouraged to access health care through HNFS’ comprehensive Patient-Centered Community Care (PCCC) network. However, VCP allows a veteran to choose a provider outside of the PCCC preferred network when one is not available or the veteran has a preference for another community provider.

Veteran-selected providers are screened by HNFS to confirm providers meet VCP certification and license requirements and accept VCP terms of participation. After confirming providers have met VCP requirements and accept terms of participation, the certification process is initiated prior to HNFS scheduling an appointment.

To meet certification and license requirements for participation, providers must:

  • be Medicare participating (certain exceptions apply*),
  • have an active unrestricted state license,
  • be DEA licensed (as applicable),
  • have no sanctions, and
  • provide a Type 1 and/or Type 2 NPI (as applicable).

*The following provider types may register as a VCP provider, regardless of Medicare participation (other requirements including those listed above still apply):

  • acupuncturists (licensed acupuncturists, physicians whose practice includes acupuncture services [Medicare waiver only applies to acupuncture services])
  • advanced practice nurses (such as women’s health nurse practitioners or certified nurse midwives)
  • audiologists
  • chiropractors (chiropractors, D.C.s)
  • family medicine physicians
  • master's level counselors
  • obstetricians/gynecologists (OB/GYNs)
  • optometrists
  • pediatricians
  • residential treatment facilities

If you or your organization is interested in serving veterans under VCP as a participating provider:

  1. View the VCP Participation Agreement.
  2. Register online.

Once your VCP registry submission is validated by HNFS, you will receive an email confirming receipt of your submission and approval status. If your submission is approved, the practitioner or organization will appear on our Find a Choice Provider directory for veterans to search.
